The Starting Line

No matter the circumstances, start now.

It doesn't matter if you're at the top of your game, or if you're at the bottom. The process of diving into the unknown is the same for all of us.

The only certainty in life is uncertainty. That never changes. It's easy to believe that everyone in the world is an expert of their craft, or a master of their field. But all experts will tell you the same thing, they don't have all the answers.

Life is a journey which we're all figuring out as we go along. No matter what your goals are, the best teacher is experience, and the only way to gain experience is to start.

In school, I had a friend with an incredibly persistent drum teacher.

My friend didn't own a drum kit, and he told the teacher he couldn't practice outside of lessons. His drum teacher refused to accept this response. He told my friend to arrange pillows in the shape of a kit, and to practice with those until he had a kit. Was it ideal? No. Did it work? Yes.

Most of us don't need to start this small, but for those who do, let it be known that there is always a solution. If your dream is to be a photographer and you own a smart phone, then you're ready to start taking pictures.  It's not ideal, but you're able to start. If you want to get fit, you have two arms and two legs and you can work out from anywhere in the world.

The stars don't need to align for us to take action. Wherever we are in the world, the best time to start is now.

Excuses are easy. Rationalisation is easy. Action is what counts.

There will never be a perfect time. There will never be a perfect place. There will never be a perfect opportunity.

Pull the trigger and run.

A Lesson For Future Champions

You can't spend your life waiting for the perfect moment. Like my friend who was forced to practice the drums using pillows, put in the work and the results will come. It's never ideal, but it's all worth it in the long-run.

You have everything you need to start—right here, right now. Now is the time to stop making excuses, and to start doing instead.

Whenever you're looking for motivation, consider these words—the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second best time is now.
