Owning Yourself

The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the  privilege of owning yourself.

—Friedrich Nietzsche

A Lesson for Future Champions

Freedom comes at a cost.

For entrepreneurs, the freedom to run their own business and to live their own lives comes at a cost. They'll have to work more than they'd like to. They'll have to miss important events with friends and family. They'll have to pick up the slack when things get tough because no-one else will do it for them. But for most entrepreneurs, the alternative options are fates worse than death.

For athletes, the freedom to follow their passions, and to train their bodies comes at a cost. They'll have to break themselves into pieces over time. They'll have to push themselves to the point of near-injury daily. They'll have to live in pain and train in pain. But for most athletes, the alternative options are fates worse than death.

Anyone that chooses to follow their dreams will struggle. It doesn't matter if you're entering the physical, or mental world, there are sacrifices you'll have to make. Often, the level of success you achieve will link your sacrifice.

Are you willing to pay the price for your dreams?
